Peter is one of South Africa’s leading litigation and dispute resolution attorneys with extensive and varied experience having been in practice for more than 43 years. He is well-regarded for his work as a commercial litigator and as an accredited mediator in commercial and family law disputes. Peter has served in various judicial and quasi-judicial roles, including as a Judge and Assessor in the High Court, and as a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court since its inception.
He has been involved in substantial mediations in both his capacity as the mediator, as well as representing parties in mediations. He is on the mediation panels of the Arbitration Foundation of South Africa (AFSA) and Conflict Dynamics and also sits on AFSA’s Mediation Committee.
Prior to joining Fluxmans as an Executive Consultant, Peter fulfilled the position of Managing Partner for 10 years in a global law firm. He also served as head of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department.
Peter was previously a director of the Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children for over 20 years, and is currently a director of Woman and Men Against Child Abuse (“WMACA”). In both these capacities he has done many high profile matters, and continues to do a considerable amount of pro bono work for WMACA. Peter previously served on the board of directors of Alexander Forbes, where he worked alongside, inter alia President Cyril Ramaphosa.
His contributions to the legal field have been recognised both locally and globally. He was voted the Best Lawyer in Arbitration and Litigation by Business Day’s Business Law and Tax Review. He is also ranked in the top 5% of lawyers globally by Chambers and Partners, and ranked in the top 10 influential Dispute Resolution Lawyers in South Africa by Business Today. Moreover, Peter was nominated and recognized in the Acritas Stars Survey in 2018 for his outstanding legal services.
