Fluxmans Welcomes Vac Students

July 5, 2024

This week, Fluxmans welcomed our VAC students through a variety of engaging activities designed to foster connection and provide a comprehensive learning experience.

We hosted a Welcome Breakfast on the first day, offering students the opportunity to socialise and get acquainted with our team.

Each student was paired with a Candidate Attorney or an Associate, allowing them to observe and understand the daily responsibilities of these professionals. Our diverse range of tasks ensured that students gained exposure to the different types of work across our various departments. We place a strong emphasis on providing valuable feedback on submitted work.

Additionally, court visits were organised to give students a glimpse into real-life proceedings, enriching their understanding of actual hearings.

We also dedicated time for a debate session moderated by the CAs. Students were required to submit Heads of Argument and prepare to present their cases, with a focus on delivering constructive feedback and recognising potential talent.

Overall, a very productive week and a great learning curve!

WE ASKED OUR VAC STUDENTS FOR SOME FEEDBACK, AND THIS IS WHAT THEY SHARED WITH US:

WHAT SURPRISED US MOST ABOUT FLUXMANS:

As a medium-sized law firm it has very broad commercial departments.

We really like how friendly the staff are and how supportive all the staff were to the vacation work students.

As a commercial litigation firm, I like that they exposed us to the different courts in our country being magistrate court, high court and labour court.

Lastly, the law firm is very invested in improving the skills of their staff.

THEIR THOUGHTS ON THE CULTURE AT FLUXMANS

The culture at Fluxmans is exceptional, characterized by a strong sense of camaraderie.

From candidate attorneys to associates and directors, everyone genuinely cares about each other.

The directors maintain positive relationships with all team members, ensuring they are approachable and involved.

The absence of a rigid hierarchy fosters an inclusive atmosphere where no one feels inferior.

This warm environment promotes learning, as the open-door policy encourages individuals to seek guidance and clarification freely

THE HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED:

Learning how to practically implement what they learnt at university

Enjoying getting to see how a law firm actually runs and seeing what each person’s job entails

Going to the high court
